Do I need to be fit before joining CrossFit?
You absolutely do not need to be “in shape” to join CrossFit Banff! One of the greatest things about CrossFit is that every workout can be scaled or modified to suit any fitness level. That means a new CrossFitter and an experienced CrossFitter can do the same workout, but the workout is scaled according to each athlete’s ability. Our Boot camp Fundamentals program teaches athletes how to scale and modify workouts to their own level and our coaches instruct athletes on how modify movements in our regular group classes.
What does a class look like?
Classes at CrossFit Banff are a full 1-hour block of time. Every class is led by at least 1 coach, sometimes 2. A typical class begins with a 10 minute warm-up, 5-10 minutes spent reviewing movements, 20-25 minutes of strength training and a 10-20 minute conditioning workout. Our classes build community and you'll be encouraged by your coaches and fellow teammates to reach new heights.
How often should I come to CrossFit?
When it comes to CrossFit, you get out what you put in. Depending on your athletic goals, you should practice CrossFit skills at class or in personal training sessions between 3 and 5 times a week. Athletes who train 5 days a week and rest 2 days are the most successful with their training. Because CrossFit classes are constantly varied to practice different combinations of movements, we recommend an absolute minimum of 2 classes or sessions per week to ensure you remain familiar with the skills. At 3 days a week, you will get a foundation for CrossFit and your body will begin to adapt. Coupled with a sound dietary plan, you will see some amazing changes in your body. Coming 5 days/week will only expedite that process.
